Oil Pastel Portraits.

Central Focus: In this lesson, students will learn all about an artist named Chuck Close who specializes in portraits using a grid technique. The students will pick a portrait (of themselves, a friend, family member, celebrity, etc.) and use a grid overlay to help them proportionally draw out their portrait onto their final paper. They will practice different oil pastel techniques— from blending to sgraffito to layering— and apply those same techniques to create their Oil Pastel Portrait.
