Day Day 2021.

International Dot Day is held every year during the month of September. It is a day to celebrate creativity, collaboration, and stepping out of your comfort zone. Dot Day is inspired by the book, “The Dot,” by Peter H. Reynolds. “The Dot” is about a girl named Vasthi who thinks she is terrible at art until her Art teacher tells her to just “make a mark and see where it takes you.” Vashti quickly discovers that she is great at making dots and then inspires others to “make a mark.”

For this K-5 project, the students were given circle templates on colored copy paper to make their dots. They were told to just “simply make a mark” in the middle of their circle and go from there. With just a dot, these are what the students came up with. They were allowed to choose between markers, crayons, colored pencils, and oil pastels. Afterwards, they cut out their circle. Older students could draw their own circle if they wished.
