Create Your Own Zoo!

These first grade students learned about their local zoo and analyzed selected artworks from Henri Rousseau and Albrecht Durer, as we talked about what is in a zoo. These students were able to identify animals in the zoo and draw them, along with learning about pattern, blending, and shading.

Summary:

1. Students will analyze works of art featuring animals by Henri Rousseau and Albrecht Durer.

2. Students will create their own version of a zoo out of colored pencils.

3. Students will relate the topic to their personal lives and explain why they chose to draw the particular images they did.
